After spending the last few months establishing himself as one of the more progressive names on the rise right now, emerging producer Christy Ċ has now returned once again to deliver his vibrant new single 'Moment'.
Lifted from his newly released debut EP 'Closer', which is available to stream now, 'Moment' makes for a dazzling addition to his ever-evolving catalogue of late. Brimming with bold and euphoric textures at every turn, he continues to shine as one of the more immersive names doing the rounds right now.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Red Hot Chilli Peppers! I have very fond memories of my younger self sitting with my brothers while we played video games in their bedroom, with the By The Way album playing in the foreground - tv muted. I think I was about 11 at the time. I was addicted to it, and would go through just to listen to the music playing sometimes! Still my all-time favourite band to this day, and the nostalgia never goes away.
Having said that, to this day I have never been more obsessed with an artist than I was with Feed Me when I discovered “Feed Me’s Big Adventure”. I was 16 at the time and actually, looking back now, it was a pivotal moment for me and my influences as I had just begun exploring EDM as a genre.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Technically yes, it was for a music workshop at 6th form college. We formed a rock band and had to write our own song – I even took part as lead singer. The workshop took place in a studio and I’m pretty sure it was recorded actually – just hope the CD never gets found!
My really early productions from back in the years when I was in high school were very much a mix of complextro, progressive house and even hardstyle. I had a go at even giving myself an alias – Mr Monkey. But we don’t talk about him.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Easily, the music I listen to. That emotional, euphoric feeling you get when you listen to a song and it just hits the right way. If a track does that for me and gives me goosebumps, often I’ll be wanting to head straight for the DAW – buzzing at the idea that I could potentially create something that gives that same feeling to someone else! Nothing beats that feeling.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Language – Porter Robinson. Porter is a huge influence for me in general, but this classic is just massive! It reached out to SO many people, and I’m sure it still does. I’d always wanted to recreate that same feeling.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
This is an easy one for me since my career has only just kicked off at the start of this year, but when I received that email from BBC Introducing that they were going to play my debut track Ocean on the radio, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I sort of just froze on my seat, and as soon as the adrenaline kicked in, the first thing I had to do was call my family to release the excitement!
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
This is a tough one since there are so many artists I would love to share a stage with, but the artist that first comes to mind is Hybrid Minds, I think they would have to be my favourite to share a stage with out of them all. Of course, another one of my big-dog inspirations.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Again it’s hard to just pick one. Veela and Tasha Baxter are two vocalists I aspire to someday collaborate with. Their voices give me goosebumps! Cloudnone and Rameses B are two of my favourites that I’d absolutely love to collab with.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
DJing at festivals, collaborating with other incredible artists and ultimately, having my music reach out to as many people as possible so I can share the thrill and enjoyment of it all with everyone!
