GET TO KNOW: Danny Addison

After spending the last few months unveiling a wealth of bold and vibrant offerings, emerging singer and songwriter Danny Addison has now unveiled his stunning new EP 'Porcelain'.

Featuring the previously shared offerings 'Tribe' and 'Lady', the new four-track collection makes for an incredibly dense introduction to his sound right now. With its broad and captivating production measured perfectly against his own spellbinding voice, his new release is certainly on course to become one of the most impactful of the year so far.

So with the new EP available now, we invited him to a sit down to discuss his background and what has been inspiring him of late.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?

The violin - I started playing when I was about 4 or 5.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Permission to Land by The Darkness - I remember the woman behind the counter said I couldn’t buy it because of the naked woman on the cover. I was about 10 years old at the time. Had to ask my mum to get it for me and she gave me raised eyebrow.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they

sound like?

Yes! I played bass in a band called Kumara Junction with friends from school. It was funk rock I guess - really rockin’ stuff.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

'Doomed' - Moses Sumney. I think it’s the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.

What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?

Playing live. I miss it so much. Having an effect on people who you’ve never met with your music is a pretty crazy feeling.

And what about the most frustrating part?

I find writing hard. There are so many ideas that feel like they’re going to become songs and then never do. It can be an up-hill struggle but then it can also be the most rewarding thing if something works!

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Lianne La Havas or Laura Mvula or Matt Corby. CAN’T DECIDE!

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Hopefully playing music still - I think I really want to get a cat as well. That would be a bit of a milestone for me.
