After breaking through with her brilliant initial offerings 'Tell Me About It' and 'BRIGHTER LOVE' last year, fast-rising artist Felece Tillman is now cementing her dynamic legacy to date with the release of her hotly-tipped debut EP 'SoulFul Tales'.
Adopting more of that smooth and sultry soul-inspired aesthetic she has been crafting over the years, 'SoulFul Tales' makes for a dazzling introduction to her sound to date. Filled with shimmering textures, sweeping tones, and her own soaring vocals at the helm, she is certainly looking to turn plenty of heads with this one.
So with the new EP out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first band was Jackson 5. As a child, I played their records all the time and sang all their songs. I also fell in love with Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston as a teenager. Both of these legendary one of a kind voices were so powerful yet effortless, and they could convey so much emotion in every note.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I sure did, in my 20’s I had a band named “Felece & Co”. It was a small smooth jazz and R&B group where we covered songs by artists like Anita Baker, Sade, Chaka Khan and other similar artists. We had a soulful, smooth sound that let me explore my vocal range and learn how to interpret classics in my own way.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Life itself. Every song I write is rooted in personal experiences, emotions, or stories I’ve encountered or observed through others. Whether it’s love, heartbreak, or the beauty of self-discovery, I draw inspiration from the human experience. I want my music to connect with people on a deep level, like it’s their story too.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
OMG that’s hard, I would say Meet Me On The Moon sung by the late great Phyllis Hyman.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
I’d relive the first time I heard my original music “Brighter Love” played on the internet radio in the UK. There’s nothing like that feeling of validation and excitement, knowing your work is being heard by people everywhere. It was surreal.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I would love to share a stage with Will Downing. His soulful, smooth jazz-infused rich deep baritone is beautiful, been a fan for years and I think our voices would complement each other.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Wow there are so many artists that I would love to collaborate with but I would say Frank McComb an incredible multi-instrumentalist, gifted vocalist and composer.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In five years, I see myself continuing to grow as an artist, releasing more music, and touring internationally. I’d love to establish myself as a respected name in the jazz-soul community, mentoring younger artists and maybe even running a music program to help others develop their talents. Most importantly, I want to keep connecting with my audience and creating music that touches people’s lives.
