Following on from a stream of vibrant offerings throughout the last year, Birmingham-based duo First Frontier have now returned to deliver their energetic new release 'Edging'.

Channelling a bold and blistering aesthetic from start to finish, 'Edging' makes for an instantly engaging listen. With its raw and raucous pace, flamboyant hooks, and captivating vocals layered throughout, we can't wait to hear what these two come out with next.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Ah jeez man, so long ago. Through the mists of time it'd probably be some band that wasn't significant in a way that informs what we're doing now. I remember quite liking Stereophonics, Madness and Hanson early on. Bizarre mix.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

We’ve both cut our teeth in bands before, but far more casually. Paul fronted a blues rock band for a few years before heading to university and Helena played in an all-girl indie pop band with friends for a few years. But First Frontier is the first time either of us have released any music into the world, so it’s pretty special.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

We strive to write music with themes that have a universal connection with people. For example Edging is about being on the cusp of achieving something great after loads of hard work, but not quite getting there. We also think a lot about live performances when writing - will it be a song that gets the crowd going? We're only two people, so we also really like focussing on what other bands do creatively when they limit themselves in that way. It's more interesting than having like 19 people on stage and you can never work out what each one is doing.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

We are still in the early stages of our band’s career but there have already been so many enjoyable moments. The elation of releasing our first song, hearing one of our songs on the radio for the first time and all the amazing people we have met along the way!

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

If you were to ask Helena she would say Beyonce because… well…. it’s Beyonce! Her Coachella performance was a work of art!

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?

Playing Glastonbury, headlining tours and doing lots of travelling. You know, the stuff of dreams.
