Following on from a string of highly-praised releases these last few years, New Zealand's Leaping Tiger is back on the grind once again with his shimmering new single 'Aquasavana'.
Adopting more of that fresh and progressive aesthetic he has been growing over the years, 'Aquasavana' makes for a stunning return to form. With its vibrant textures, sweeping atmosphere, and stellar hooks layered throughout, he continues to shine as one of the more distinctive names on the rise right now.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
David Bowie
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yea it was actually ridiculous hahaha. We were a metal/pop-punk band that just wanted to be like ‘A Day to Remember’.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Definitely life experiences, whatever music I'm listening to at the time and nostalgia in general.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
‘Are You In Love’ by James Blake. I think that's a perfect song.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Maybe playing my first festival set ever back in New Zealand, it was a huge buzz with my friends and felt like a big achievement.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Tyler, the Creator would be really fun.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Right now it would be Rosalia.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Just doing more music, living off it and staying creative.
