Having already cemented himself with a flurry of bright and immersive outings so far this year, London-based artist Michael Blackwell continues to impress as he delivers the stunning new single 'Down On Your Luck'.

Lifted from his eagerly-awaited debut EP 'A Trip Around The Sun', which is set to arrive very soon, 'Down On Your Luck' continues more of that fresh and tantalising aesthetic he has been building for himself. With its rich and soaring textures perfectly elevating his heartfelt vocal performance throughout, we can't wait to hear what this new EP has in store for us as well.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

The first band I remember being obsessed with was Led Zeppelin. My dad would play a lot of music from the 60’s and 70’s growing up, and I was really drawn to the sound and swagger of Led Zeppelin.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I was in a lot of bands growing up in the North East. We would mainly play rock music, in small venues, and far too loud!

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

I’m a big lover of music production and the craft of writing songs. I’m always inspired by a variety of artists, old and new.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

'Yesterday' by The Beatles.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

I’ve had so many amazing moments in my career already that I will never forget... but I’m always looking forward to what's around the corner!

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

There are so many! Queens of the Stone Age, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Sam Fender...

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I’m always up for collaboration as it’s great to get a fresh perspective on music. Even if there is an artist that is the polar opposite to my music, I’m excited to see what the results would be!

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Who knows what's around the corner...but as long as I’m still making music and playing shows, I’ll be a happy man!
