Writer's picture: The Real DingThe Real Ding

With the likes of BBC Radio 1Xtra and Okayplayer supporting his previous releases with Chillhop Music, Helsinki-based producer Misha has now returned to deliver his stunning new single 'Brave'.

Teaming up with fellow Finnish artists Jesse Markin and IKE, as well as fellow producer Cocabona for the release, 'Brave' showcases more of that bold and sensual RnB direction he has cultivated for himself. Channelling a wonderfully warm and woozy aesthetic throughout, his latest gem cements him as a fresh and exciting talent growing right now.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

I have to say Wu-Tang Clan. I fell in love after hearing their Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) for the first time. That specific album started my journey as an artist.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

My very first band (in fifth grade) was playing metal. Next year we were already doing rap. At that time we used to take influences from Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. It probably sounded terrible, since our Finnish accent in English was pretty bad, haha.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

I find inspiration all around, but music-wise mostly from 70s and 80s Soul, Funk, Jazz-funk, Bossa Nova, Latin Jazz, AOR, Disco, Psychedelic Rock.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Kendrick Lamar - These Walls. I love everything about it. Production, lyrics, topic, flow, mood, mix and the list goes on.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

I think that would be my first live performance back in junior high school. I was so nervous about it, because I'm a shy person and never liked performing in front of the class. After that experience I realized that I actually like performing as long as I know what I’m doing.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Quincy Jones!

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

If I’d have to pick one, I’d say Nas. He’s still my favourite rap artist.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself in a happy relationship with 1-2 kids. Keeping close family ties and staying optimistic & positive towards life. Still making music for a living. Traveling and exploring the world. Enjoying life.
