Having already turned out a wealth of warm and riveting releases these last few years, Virginia's Moodyy has now returned once again to deliver his eagerly-awaited debut album 'ASCENSION'.
Featuring the previously shared singles 'SINCERELY', 'HOPE' and 'EXPLORE', this new ten-track collection makes for a wonderfully warm and enticing listen. Conjuring more of that soul-infused R&B sound he has developed for himself, 'ASCENSION' cements him as one of the more exciting names on the scene today.
So with the new LP available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
I remember when I was younger, I fell in love with a lot more pop rock-centered type of artists such as P!NK. Then, I started to really get into Hip-Hop around middle school with artists like Kanye, T-Pain, and Gambino. Their lyricism & the melodic energy they carried in their projects encouraged me to think outside the box.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I never formed a band, but I was part of a collective during high school. We were all very diverse with our own strengths, but together it sounded like the perfect combination of melodic & lyrical rap with trap drums.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
It’s mainly the outside world & what I observe throughout my 24 hours. I try to be simplistic with my approach and find beauty in life, especially the beauty that’s underneath the pain. When it’s time to write, I go off of whichever emotion is closest to me at the moment. Oftentimes, the songs would come to me in a streamline all at once & it feels like they write themselves.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
The song “Momma” by Kendrick Lamar is so poetic in storytelling, it feels like another tier of writing that I’m aiming towards. The vocal harmonies in the background add another world to his lyricism & it's an honor to witness.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
I would say the day I dropped my debut album “ASCENSION”. I never knew how much relief I could feel from letting go of everything that was holding me back. Other than that moment, I had the crowd chant my name for the first time when I was like 16. It was ecstatic.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
That’s such a difficult question, but if I had to choose one artist, it would be J. Cole just based on a personal full-circle prophecy I have.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I think Kid Cudi would be a perfect artist to collaborate with. I feel like our minds & thoughts are similar, yet distinctively unique.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I see myself as a well-established & respected music artist with multiple successful albums, touring the world while also being a positive figure in my community.
