With a rich and soaring array of offerings landing over the past year, LA-based Mothé have now returned to deliver their captivating new offering 'Dancing On An Empty Floor'.
Channelling a smooth and uplifting indie-rock aesthetic with a dash of psych-pop thrown in for good measure, 'Dancing On An Empty Floor' sees them return in stellar form. Filled with grizzled hooks, sweeping songwriting, and a wonderfully bright direction throughout, they are certainly set for big things in the months ahead.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with the band's Spencer Fort to find out more about his origins and what has inspired him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?
When I was young I started learning music on piano. It was mostly a lot of classical music and hard theory which was super helpful. When I got a little older I picked up the electric guitar and I was incredibly attracted to it. I think it was my first experience not really knowing what I was doing and I found that thrilling
What was the first album you remember owning?
When I was really young my dad took me to a CD store because I wanted to find Dookie by Green Day. At the time I was looking for "the one with Basket Case but also if we can find the one with Boulevard of Broken Dreams that would be cool" so I left the store with a couple different CDs. Dookie is just the one I remember really owning.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they
sound like?
I've been in so many bands at this point I can't even wrap my head around it. When I was a teenager I was in a metalcore band. We were pretty bad. It did eventually run me through the pipeline of getting into old screamo and punk, one of my bands after was mathy emo / screamo stuff. But ultimately it landed me in pop music, I think for some reason this is a route a lot of people end up taking. Then I burned out on my pop bands and started my longest running project Moth Wings, which was a two piece garage rock band. Today as Mothé I think I make indie but I'm not sure.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
I really wish I'd written Space Oddity. There's something so timelessly cheesy and glam about that song, but I do think it's one of the best ever made.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
I don't have one specific moment, making music is incredibly rewarding. It's not something I'd be willing to give up, I love the process of creating it but also really enjoy playing live and seeing other people enjoy it too. It's really nice to be able to connect with everyone.
And what about the most frustrating part?
I'm finding it a little lonely and directionless sometimes. I mostly work alone on it until it's time to finish recording something so it's super frustrating to be in charge of my own productivity. And then often I have no one to bounce early stage ideas off of so there's a lot of discipline required in order for me to just finish writing a song at all. It's the most frustrating when I feel like I can't finish anything.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I'd love to share a stage with so many people. I'd like to go on tour with the great indie acts of our time like Lorde, The 1975 and Cage The Elephant, but I really hope I can get a shot at sharing a stage with some of the old legends before they all retire. I'd love a chance to get on stage with The Cure or Iggy Pop or something like that.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I can't really think like that. In five years I see myself still doing it, I can't set expectations for that though or else I'll start to get really shaky. I'm going to still be enjoying it hopefully.
