What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first artist that I fell in love with was Whitney Houston.
When I was around 1 or 2 years old my mom said that I used to cry and she didn’t know how to calm me down until one day Whitney Houston’s song “I will always love you” came on and I stopped crying immediately. Fun Fact: that same song still calms me down til this day.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I don’t know if we can call it a band but me and 2 other friends had a group called Ink Squad because my best friend Tipton started the group and he had a lot of tattoos. They were making beats for a lot of artists around the city and eventually Tipton asked me to join the group as the main artist that they produce for. We had a Trap hip hop sound with a lot of 808’s.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My primary inspiration is changing someone's life with my life story, I know there’s people out there that go through anxiety, depression, etc. and they probably feel alone, with me knowing this and knowing that I have a voice that can change that feeling.. that’s really all the inspiration I need to write any song in the world.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
A song that I wish I wrote myself would have to be “Make it rain” by Ed Sheeran. That song gives me chills every time. I remember driving down the street at night on the west side of Chicago, I would turn that song on and just zone out. Ed is a legend for sure.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
That moment that I would relive would have to be the very first time I recorded my vocals. It was in my friend's bedroom. He had a microphone set up in his closet and we had about 6 people crammed up in this small room, this was the first time everybody found out I could rap.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I would love to share the stage with Drake and/or Travis Scott. The energy that they know how to bring out of the crowd is amazing I know that I would enjoy myself and be able to learn a lot from them on the stage.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
An artist that I would love to collaborate with is Teyana Taylor even though I think she’s done doing music that’s someone that I would love to get on a hook or something. Her voice is amazing to me. I can't explain it, I just get chills when I hear her.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In five years I'm going to be one of the biggest artists out. “Top Floor” is going to be a big part of that because that’s the song that’s going to jumpstart everything and make these next 5 years some of the biggest and best years of my life.
