So with the new EP available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Definitely a toss up between Lil Wayne and Kanye. I’ll never forget seeing Wayne on rap city and proceeding to write my first raps.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I was a part of and founded several music collectives. At the time my sound was all over the place but in reality I just sounded like a far less skilled version of now.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Life in every facet you can think of. But singularly speaking, the pain and chip on my shoulder to show the world what I’m about.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
That’s a hard one. Me and my drank by Lil Wayne comes to mind. Always admired how Wayne used the analogy of speaking to his drank as if it were his woman throughout that track .
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Not to sound dismissive of what I’ve done thus far. But that moment has yet to be experienced.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Future. Putting it out into the universe. Rolling loud … one day.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Sampha. He’s one of the most amazing vocalists I’ve ever heard . We’d make a masterpiece.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Touring the world, impacting people through my platform and giving artists that were once in my shoes opportunities that I didn’t .
