GET TO KNOW: Tamina

After returning with a string of impactful offerings throughout the year so far, emerging artist Tamina recently delivered her warm and woozy new single 'Love The Way You Love Me'.

Honing more of that rich and enigmatic R&B aesthetic she is quickly cultivating for herself, 'Love The Way You Love Me' makes for a beautifully warm and alluring listen. With her heartfelt vocal performance layered across a breezy production from start to finish, she is continuing her ascent as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Beyoncé & Destiny’s Child. I’m a big fan of their music but also fell in love with the performances because of the costumes and choreography.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I’ve been in a few girl groups but the first was with two of my cousins when I was around 7. We were called ‘The Beauty Chicks’ and would sing Rnb/Pop music. We regularly performed for our family and made tickets for them to buy from us.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Personal life experience. Everything that I write is based on a real situation in my life. I use my music as an outlet and it bring me closure.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

I write all of my music myself but I really love Mariah Carey’s writing style. She has a strong vocabulary which really helps to tell the story.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

So far, I would go back to the day my EP was released because I had so much support and it was the first step towards making music my full time career.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

I would LOVE to perform with Kehlani. She has the most beautiful voice, is an amazing dancer and seems like such a sweet person with great energy.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I’d also say Kehlani for this because I feel like we make similar music that is inspired by old school r&b and I’d love to learn from her.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Within the next five years, I plan to be internationally recognised for my Music and touring with the people closest to me. I’d also like to start some business ventures and continue to work with charities that support children & young adults in care.
